One of the key architects of Aledo’s dynasty is coming out of retirement.

Steve Wood, who led the Bearcats to three state titles in four years as head coach and helped win eight more as an assistant with Tim Buchanan, has officially been named the new head coach at Fort Worth Southwest Christian School, the school announced Thursday.
Wood posted a 75–4 record during his run as Aledo’s head coach, winning championships in 2014, 2016, and 2018 before becoming athletic director and later retiring after the 2022 season.
Southwest Christian competes in TAPPS Division II and finished 6–5 last year. Wood steps in for Jeff Dixon, who recently retired after three seasons with the Eagles.
It’s not uncommon for Texas legends to return to the game. Buchanan did it at Aledo, and Todd Dodge famously made a comeback at Lovejoy. Now, Wood joins that list.
Aledo royalty is back in football.
